Persimmon Seedling (fall delivery)

$32.00

Persimmons are as multi-use as trees come in silvopasture systems. Low-maintenance once established, they offer high-sugar fruits that are loved by cattle, pigs, poultry and just about everything else. They are one of the few fruits that chickens can successfully eat, and they love them. Depending on the tree, you’ll have fruit dropping from late summer through early winter. They make a great shade tree in pastures, growing to about 30-60’ tall and having a fairly narrow canopy.

Our trees available this year are seedlings from high-yielding cultivars, and are absolutely huge. They will be above browse height for cattle and deer alike, and only need protection from rubbing. We have persimmons that we planted 4 years ago as small seedlings that haven’t yet hit this size, and those tend to get leggy when grown inside of a tree tube. You’re saving multiple years by starting with trees this tall. For a tree that should yield several hundred pounds of fruit annually once mature, it’s well worth getting there several years earlier.
