Austree Hybrid Willow 18″ Cutting (fall delivery)

If you want fast shade in a wet area, Austree willows are the way to go. Few willow species will grow as tall, and none as fast in my experience. I have seen them grow to 8-10′ in a year in a shelter, and 12′ in two years without one. The leaves can also be used as a fodder supplement. Either cut them back to a foot from the ground every year and allow them to resprout multiple stems that can be browsed by your livestock, or cut them above browse height, and chop the young branches off for your livestock during the summer slump. A few rows of trees will drastically reduce wind speeds during the growing season, and slow winds during the winter as well. We typically use these as fast-growing shade trees that are meant to be removed in under a decade, once the slower-growing species have filled in.

Trees will come as 18” unrooted, dormant cuttings. Soak them in water for a day before putting in the soil, and then stick them 10-12” into the soil. Good weed protection and a tree shelter will give much better growth. Choose areas that have plenty of soil moisture.

Shipping: This product will ship out in late November or early December. If your ground is likely to be frozen by that time, we recommend a spring shipment.
