Dolgo Crab Apple (4-6′)
$48.00
Dolgo has small, bright red crabapples, averaging the size of a golf ball, that is popular for wildlife plantings, pollinator friendly plantings and as a compliment to your standard orchard. It has very high resistance to fireblight, powdery mildew, and cedar apple rust. It is very cold-hardy from zones 3 to 8, with low-chill hours needed to fruit. It has a long bearing window, usually starting around September and fruit hanging on later in the season. While it loves being planted amongst other apples, it is self-fertile and not in particular need of pollination partners.
‘Antonovka’ rootstocks – Our apples and crabapples are grafted onto standard rootstock, which will result in 25’-35’ trees. Think towards those long-lived apple trees from days of yore, chances are they were on a ‘standard’ type rootstock. These trees, while big and not as uniform as the typical clonal orchard rootstocks, are going to be strongly rooted and resilient to stand the test of time across a range of conditions. With thoughtful pruning, these trees can still be managed if you so wish. The commonly recommended spacing for these rootstocks is around 20’ to 30’ apart.
